About Our Bicentennial

The City of Sandusky was founded in 1818, and will mark its bicentennial in 2018. Situated on the southern shore of Lake Erie, mid-way between Cleveland to the east and Toledo to the west, Sandusky’s breath-taking location and rich history have helped shaped the city to what it is today, and is the foundation for its future.

To mark the city’s bicentennial, Sandusky’s City Commission appointed a Bicentennial Commission to plan and execute a year-long celebration. The Bicentennial Commission is a volunteer board of community members with the task to stimulate pride, celebrate the past, and build momentum for future.

In addition to the Bicentennial Commission, various committees and sub-committees have been established to plan pillar events, history exhibits, community activities and legacy projects.
